Kate Moss - Supermodel and Painter?

I just love this one.

Kate Moss has started painting over the past few weeks to channel her anger and despair resulting from the split with live-in boyfriend, Pete Doherty.

Reports claim that “the supermodel has impressed her friends with the quality of her creations, and is now planning to show off the artwork to a wider audience.”

Whoa, stop right there. If this celebrity sells a piece of art after painting for “a couple of weeks,” I’m gonna eat my shoes.

Any painter who has labored to “reach a wider audience” knows what a struggle it is both emotionally and professionally to put body and soul into work that collects dust in a studio.

The release continues, “a friend of hers had a look at her collection and encouraged her to show her work in a gallery. So she is now set to show off 11 of her favourite pictures as part of an exhibition in London’s East End in two weeks’ time.”

Ouch. The poor woman is despondent. Is anyone including friends going to criticize her work? Hey, if I was the gallery owner, I’d want to show Kate Moss’ crap to the world too. Maybe there’s an idiot out there willing to buy something just for the novelty of it. It still doesn’t make it art.

No, we haven’t seen the pictures. But knowing several painters in New York and the difficulties they endure, it kills me.

Someone do Kate Moss a REAL favor before she gets skewered by London art critics. Paint for a year and put the best of what is created on display. It still might be lipstick on a pig, but maybe it’ll be just a touch closer to “art.”
