At the tender age of 27, supermodel and superstar Gisele Bundchen is easily one of the world’s most famous faces. The Brazilian born model has graced the cover of thousands of magazines and is currently the face of over a dozen products worldwide. Bundchen is also considered to be the world’s richest supermodel, but life isn’t all roses for this Brazilian beauty. A recent well publicized relationship with NFL Superstar Tom Brady and his rocky relationship with his ex Bridget Moynahan whom Brady knocked up, has given Bundchen a sultry and racy edge. Where this super model’s career is headed, no one knows for sure.

Gisele was born in the small town of Três de Maio in Horizontina, Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil to a family of meager means. Her father worked as a bank clerk and her mother as a professor at a local university. Just getting attention in her own family was difficult for Gisele at times since she was one of five children – all girls – and she even has a fraternal twin whom she is five minutes older than.

It became apparent, early on in life for Gisele, that natural beauty, grace and thinness would be something she would have in spades. Stories from her high school days are filled with her overwhelming desire to play volleyball for the national Brazilian team, all the while, her classmates worried about her weight. Her nickname was Olive Oil, after Popeye’s anorexic looking girlfriend. Rumors about a possible eating disorder would dog Bundchen throughout her career, even after making it big in the world of modeling.

A modeling career came easily to Bundchen. At age 14, she began taking modeling classes, and before she knew it, she had become of the most popular teenage models in the world. At the tender age of 16, Gisele moved to New York City to pursue modeling full time. The years 1999-2001 were a whirlwind for Giselle. She appeared on multiple covers of Vogue, as well as Rolling Stone and several other magazines. She won Model of the Year and was named Most Beautiful Girl in the World. In only a few short years, Gisele was the hottest name in the world.

But like most famous people, there is a chorus of criticism out there for Gisele. When Giselle moved management companies from Elite, her first choice to IMG, the head of Elite Modeling claimed that Giselle slept her way to the top and was a “stoner.” John Casablancas has since claimed he never made those comments, but no one knows for sure, other than to say that Gisele burned a few bridges when she made the switch.

Gisele has also garnered national attention for slamming the Pope’s stance on condom use. Along with angering the world’s Catholics, she is also a foe of PETA for working with a fur farming cooperative. But her most recent press has come from dating NFL superstar Tom Brady. Brady, who had recently been dating Bridget Moynahan and gotten her pregnant, has been at the center of the controversy. Gisele has tried to keep a low profile but she is definitely tainted for being associated with the whole thing.

Despite being ancient as far as super models go, the wealth that Giselle has acquired over the past few years allows her to continue to impact the world of fashion for years to come.
